Dorian was tired of his blindness in the dark, so he tried to see once more, but the brightness of the light burned him. Amazing. Literally a masterpiece. I'm not a fan of classics, but this one is absolutely a must-read. ******************************* I read somewhere: "everyone sees their own sins in Dorian." And I couldn't agree more, during the story we don't always witness dorian's sins, so we imagine most parts of it, but this one didn't bother me, on the contrary I loved the idea of this freedom for the reader, that we as readers were able to imagine Dorian the way we wanted, witness his sins as black as we wanted to. Dorian, oh dear Dorian, i loved this character, but although I liked him he was shallow, empty, a nothing. Yes Dorian was a nothing, dorian was only a copy of lord Henry, he had nothing for himself, he was like a doll being played by Harry, and Harry liked playing with dorian, he liked watching him transform, he liked to see his effect, his control over dorian. And lord Henry, I love him as much as I hate him, he was the enticing one, the one who knew how to talk, the one who knew how to project the effect on others. Harry was the manipulator, he was the darkness, but he played the light. He was the paradox. Although I knew Harry's words were absolute bullshit, I couldn't stop myself from enjoying him talk, still my favorite chapters are the ones where lord Henry talked alot, although he was wrong, I loved to listen to him. So when it comes to Dorian, being fooled by Harry, choosing Harry over basil, I don't blame him, no I don't blame dorian for his choice, because I very well know that I would do the same if I were to be him, I would also be fooled by Harry's enchanting words. I loved the idea of watching the innocent dorian turning a villain, seeing the white slowly turning gray and then finally black, when everywhere you look is dark, and you can't find the light. But no, dorian found the light, but maybe too late, but he found it at the end of the story. ************************************ Now I ask you dear stranger, if we were to be given a chance to have a portrait, growing old instead of us, would our story be like dorian? Would we do all dorian did? Thanks for reading💜
