I found the narrative to be overly convoluted and frustratingly nonsensical. While Miller's attempt to intertwine the life of scientist David Starr Jordan with her personal journey is ambitious, the result feels disjointed and unfocused. I was left questioning the relevance of many of the anecdotes and the overall purpose of the book.
