The book tries to illustrate the philosophical thoughts from Descartes to Newton in a most simple and illuminating way. I personally did not like the pictures but sometimes they could help the reader to grasp the idea of the concept. The main narrative of the book, so far as I understood, was the different arguments regarding the matter and soul and their relations with each other, god, etc. between philosophers through the 17th century. In this regard, the book successfully illuminated the evolution of ideas which had began by the supremacy of idea and soul and ended with the English empiricism which had better ability to explain natural phenomena.
