I MISSED READING BOOKS LIKE THIS!

The concept of the story was both cliché and new to me. Chaos magic, which was the infection, vs order magic of the cards. And the mixture of these two had come out pretty good! Which brings me to the writing style:
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
Rachel Gilling's diction was good and THE RHYMING, THOSE LITTLE POEMS !!! I cannot begin to say how much I enjoyed them!
The only problem with the plot was it was predictable. The hints given in the story spoiled the upcoming plot twists rather than make it mysterious! 

I love when they argue,” Emory said into his soup. “Keeps my weak little heart beating.

The characters were actually quite lovable too. They were complicated, dark, secretive and yet also loyal and witty with interesting and heartwhelming interactions. It was a little like a found family trope, which I always like to read
It had been some time since I loved the characters in a book this much!
I just hope nobody dies in the second book ...
