3/5 Deals with one if the most important issues that shouldn't actually exist, but still does. I remember two or three years ago I heard the story of a black boy that was murdered in the hands of a cop. The story of Starr and Khalil reminded me of that. It is so heartbreaking and all of us need to pay more attention to the whole racism issue. In this case, we have an awesome, eye-opening book that I think everyone should read. But the reason I dropped one star is these sentences: (“Goddamn machine guns,” Daddy says. “Folks acting like this Iran or some shit.) I'm an Iranian girl and I'm absolutely tired of hearing everyone thinking it is okay to turn their guns toward us. To me these sentences are a kind of racism and I actually felt really uncomfortable when I read them. So yeah I absolutely hate these sentences, because MY COUNTRY NEVER ATTACKED ANOTHER COUNTRY.
