        There once was a girl, clever and good, who tarried in shadow in the depths of the wood. There also was a king, a shepherd by his crook, who reigned over magic and wrote the old book. The two were together so the two were the same, The girl, the king, and the monster they became."


I never thought the second book would be better than the first. 

The story continues where the first book ends and this time the book has three story lines happening at the same time and we go back and forth between them although at the end they somehow become one.

The second book gave me the chance to come to love Elm and Ione more and understand them better. I loved their story line. I absolutely loved the backstory of the cards and the Shepherd king. 

It was such a great journey reading this book. I had so much fun and also there were times that I really did get emotional.
