                This book is a very intense emotional rollercoaster, filled with adventure and piracy and homoeroticism, and it shows the internal journey of self-discovery and self-love being made while on an actual, external trip, which is one of my favorite literary tropes. It's funny, and it's beautifully written, but it is also so much more. I didn't expect racism being discussed so well in a novel about a white person written by a white person, but I was very happily surprised, as the main character, Monty, gradually understands his own privilege over his black best friend (and also his sister). There are some pretty heavy subject being discussed, too, like mental illness, abuse, internal and external homophobia, et cetera, and they're all handled very well, and very touchingly, so that the book has a lot to say while not feeling like too much. 
Overall, book is a blessing and I will be rereading it many times after now.
(P.S: I started listening to the audiobook right after I finished reading, because I heard the author say it's the best version of the book and because I really wanted to hear a hot British voice say 'darling' more times than it's necessary. I wasn't disappointed.)
