The Final Empire
You know you've read an amazing book when after finishing it you start pacing in your room, thinking about everything you've just read.

Not that I'm an expert in fantasy but I'm pretty sure this is the best first book in a fantasy series that I've ever read.
This book gets you hooked from the very first page and doesn't let go until you've reached the last sentence. And we owe it to Sanderson's exeptional writing. He builds a whole new world with a great deal of bizarre and strange rules, introduces a dozen or more characters, presents an amazing and complex magical system but it never feels like information dump. He lets you gradually get familiar with this universe of his.

Although I've got to say, the romance and the pacing wasn't according to my taste (hence the 4 stars). It got a little bit too political for me at some points and I felt like the majority of the first half of the book was spent on planning the whole rebellious. But it can work on you if you're into heist fantasy novels.

Other than that, he did almost everything in a perfect way. From creating memorable characters with amazing arcs (my own favourite being Sazed), a compelling villian and finally the most satisfying and jaw dropping plot twists.

Even if you're not ready to commit to reading a trilogy, just read the first book. It pretty much reads like a standalone while generating enough plot holes at the end to keep you going.
